Author Guidelines

Before you submit

  • Choose the section that best fits your work. If it spans several, pick the one whose reviewers are best placed to judge the central claim.
  • Include an abstract of no more than 300 words, and up to six keywords.
  • State your central claim explicitly, early, and in plain language.
  • Show derivations rather than asserting results. Where a step is standard, cite it; where it is novel, work it through.
  • Where you report measurements, give the method, the instrument, and the uncertainty. A number without an uncertainty cannot be refereed.
  • Engage with the strongest evidence against your position. A paper that does not acknowledge the standard account it departs from will be returned.
  • Cite the prior work you build on, including work published in this journal and catalogued in the Natural Philosophy Wiki.

Format

  • All papers, in every section, must be typeset with the journal's LaTeX template. Submit the PDF it produces in review mode, and keep your LaTeX source for the production stage. The template can be used with a free Overleaf account. See Preparing your paper in LaTeX.
  • If you do not want to use LaTeX, submit a DOCX or ODT file and write “LaTeX conversion requested” in Comments for the Editor. Your paper is reviewed as submitted. If it is accepted, the journal typesets it with the template for $10 per page of the typeset PDF, invoiced before publication. Nothing is charged for papers that are not accepted.
  • Figures should be legible at print size and captioned.
  • Reference style is not prescribed, but must be internally consistent and complete enough for a reader to locate every source.

Experimental and applied claims

Submissions to Energy, Propulsion and Applications reporting anomalous energy balance or novel energy conversion must state the measurement method, the uncertainty budget, and a route by which an independent group could replicate the result. This is not a barrier to unconventional claims — it is what makes them checkable, and therefore publishable.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission is a PDF typeset with the journal’s LaTeX template, or a DOCX/ODT file for which I have requested LaTeX conversion at $10 per typeset page, payable only if the paper is accepted.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Relativity and Gravitation

Special and general relativity, gravitation, inertia and the nature of time, including alternatives to and reformulations of the standard theories. Mach's principle, push and shielding models of gravity, and antigravity proposals belong here. This is the largest body of work in the CNPS corpus.

Aether and Unified Field Theory

Aether models, medium-based accounts of propagation, and unified or fundamental field theories. Includes vortex, toroidal-ring and structural models of matter, and attempts to derive several forces from a common substrate.

Cosmology and Astrophysics

Large-scale structure and the history of the universe, redshift and its interpretation, alternatives to Big Bang cosmology, and observational astronomy bearing on cosmological questions.

Electrodynamics, Light and Optics

Classical and extended electrodynamics, the propagation and nature of light, emission theories, and electromagnetic phenomena not adequately treated by standard formulations.

Quantum, Atomic and Nuclear Physics

Foundations and interpretation of quantum theory, atomic and nuclear structure, and particle physics, including deterministic and structural alternatives to the standard interpretations.

Plasma and the Electric Universe

Plasma physics and electrical models of astrophysical phenomena, including the Electric Universe research programme and plasma cosmology. Laboratory plasma work bearing on astrophysical interpretation is welcome.

Energy, Propulsion and Applications

Novel energy conversion, zero-point and vacuum energy, low-energy nuclear reactions, propulsion concepts, and applied and experimental work in the Tesla tradition. Submissions reporting anomalous energy balance must state the measurement method, the uncertainty budget, and a route by which an independent group could replicate the result. Claims that cannot be checked cannot be refereed, and will be returned.

Earth and Planetary Science

Expansion tectonics, catastrophism, and the geological and planetary evidence bearing on them. Reviewed by geologists and planetary scientists rather than by the physics reviewer pool.

Mathematics and Geometry

Number theory, geometry, topology, combinatorics, and the mathematical structure of physical theories, including constructions and correspondences of interest to natural philosophy. Results must be stated precisely and either proved or clearly labelled as conjectures; computational claims must state what was computed and how it can be checked.

Philosophy and Foundations of Science

Philosophy of science, methodology, the logic of theory choice, the history of foundational disputes, and questions about the nature of scientific evidence and consensus.

Commentary and Historical Notes

Editorially reviewed but NOT peer reviewed, and labelled as such on every article. Biographical and historical notes, conference reports, book reviews, replies and correspondence. This section exists so that valuable non-research material has a proper home without diluting the refereed sections.
